Fast-fashion giant Shane to open pop-up store in Plano next weekend

If you use TikTok or Instagram, you’ve probably seen the Shane Hall trend. Here’s your chance to find out what the fuss is about. The China-based e-retailer will be opening a pop-up shop at Plano’s The Shoppes in Willow Bend next weekend, his August 26-28.
This will be Shein’s second visit to Texas, following a pop-up in Houston this weekend.
The pop-up shop will feature items from two Dallas-area designers: Shelby Hilliard, who has designed a comprehensive collection focused on petite women, and Cynthia V. Johnsen, who specializes in womenswear.
Famous for its cheap women’s clothing, Shane’s fast fashion has caused some controversy in recent years. According to the United Nations Environment Program, the fashion industry is her second largest consumer of water, producing 2-8% of her global carbon footprint.
Through a vast network of contract manufacturers, Shein is able to manufacture thousands of items for young people for just a few dollars each. This has led to claims of worker exploitation and copyright infringement.according to bloombergIndiana University, which recently announced a partnership with Shein, has suspended plans as a result of concerns about the company.
Hoping to fix the company’s reputation, a new team of executives is focused on improving Shein’s ESG (environmental, social and governance) performance. Former Disney and J.C. Penney executive Adam Winston was hired by Shane as the new Director of Environmental, Social and Governance, and since then Shane has developed its own sustainability and social Publishing impact reports.

Shein’s biggest challenge is maintaining a delicate balance between low prices and ethically produced clothing. This is a problem faced by other retailers such as Zara and H&M.
