Building a larger and stronger workforce has long been a priority to ensure Maine’s economic success. In the face of a strained workforce, this has never been more important.

While there are many vocational training and career paths out there, it’s exciting to see additional opportunities emerging like the University of Maine, Farmington (UMF Launches College Credit Program for High School Students, Aug. These pre-college courses in a variety of fields introduce high school students to both post-secondary studies and careers of interest. They support the future success of our students, as well as our employers and the economy.

Collectively, programs like UMF, along with programs from high schools/CTEs, other colleges, employers, and nonprofits share a common desire to meet the needs of Maine’s workforce and help individuals succeed. working towards.

This aspiration is an integral part of MaineSpark. MaineSpark is a coalition of education and business leaders working to ensure that 60% of Maine holds a worthy credential by 2025. Likewise, this aspiration is supported by the Maine Chamber of Commerce, the Maine Development Foundation, and Maine Education’s latest “Making Maine Work: A Critical Investment in the Maine Economy,” report, and Maine’s 2020-2029 The priorities and recommendations of the 2019 Economic Development Strategy are also presented.
