Lexington, Kentucky (September 8, 2022) — Next week, units across the University of Kentucky campus will participate in the United Negro College Fund’s (UNCF) National Walk for Education. The Walk for Education is a national initiative for UNCF to raise the funds needed to support members of historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) and help minority students pursue their educational endeavors. initiative.

With a mission to build a robust, nationally recognized pipeline of underrepresented students, UNCF wants to create a respected model of best practice in enrolling and graduating students from college. I’m here.

As more students aim for higher education, more students turn to UNCF for help. UNCF administers more than 400 scholarships, fellowships and institutional grants at nearly 1,100 colleges and universities across the country supporting undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students.

This year, UNCF will also award grants to primarily white institutions (PWIs) and their member HBCUs. This means that students wishing to study in the UK are now eligible to receive funding, reducing the financial burden on minority students at the university.

Participants can make a difference by walking, running or biking, all in honor of UNCF, students and schools.

The walk will take place on Saturday, September 17th from 9am to noon and will begin at the Consolidated Baptist Church.
