An Assistant Professor of Chemistry, Rizzuto is recognized for her scholarship and professional record, as well as her teaching of students.

Anthony Rizzuto, Assistant Professor of Chemistry, has been named AL Hook Emerging Professor of Science and Mathematics.

The three-year term is awarded to faculty members who have received ongoing and active scholarships, who have a history of directing undergraduate research, and who have demonstrated the ability to make an impact on students, departments, and the university. Mr. Dabrowski’s selection is subject to the review and recommendation of a committee and the appointment of a professor by the Rector.

Rizzuto joined the faculty at Elon University in the fall of 2017 after earning a PhD in Physical Chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley, CA. Rizzuto graduated from Elon with honors in 2011 and entered Phi Beta Kappa as a student, receiving the Senior Chemistry Achievement Award as a Senior Graduate in Chemistry.

A dedicated mentor, Rizzuto has supported the undergraduate studies of 12 students, including 3 Elon College Fellows, 3 SURE Fellows, and 1 Glen Raven Scholar. The combination of these studies has resulted in over a dozen regional and national conference presentations, multiple external grant awards, and numerous manuscripts prepared for publication in peer-reviewed journals.

“Our students are the next generation of leaders in the scientific community. That is why I have sought to foster an extensive collaborative research environment while encouraging the intersection of chemistry, biochemistry, environmental science and engineering.” Rizzuto talked about his approach to mentorship.

As a scholar, Rizzuto has co-authored five papers in influential publications. This is also thanks to his collaboration with his Berkeley colleagues at UC. Hendricks have awarded the AL Hook Emerging Scholar Professorship to honor former physics and mathematics professor Alonzo Lohr Hook and to support science, research, and student participation at Elon.
