Cheyenne, Wyoming (Wyoming News Now) – For parents who previously had to take hours off work to take their kids to the doctor’s office, Laramie County School District 1 offers a new solution. I may give it to you.

LCSD1 and Health-Works staff will soon provide onsite physical and behavioral health services to LCSD1 students, faculty and staff.

“There are many families and students in this community who do not have health care providers and do not have health care facilities. We are trying to reach out to families who have no children,” said Janet Farmer, LCSD1 District Nurse Superintendent.

This pilot program brings clinics to schools through mobile clinics.

And they’re starting this year at Carey, Johnson, and McCormick Middle School.

Many students and families in the district do not have established health care providers, Farmer said.

The solution will allow families to access medical care such as immunizations, emergency care, sick visits, and eventually behavioral health care in schools.

With a mobile unit in the field, what would have taken hours outside the classroom can now be less than a 30-minute on-site visit.

Parents or guardians will also be provided with a Consent Form for Treatment.

“The flexibility to have the bus right there to provide that support is incredible and, of course, we want our students to be in school. By providing opportunities, students will be able to attend school more often,” said Dr. Margaret Crespo LCSD1 Superintendent.

Low-income families are eligible for a sliding fee scale and discounts on services regardless of health insurance status.
