Rosa Mensah wore bright colors from top to bottom on the opening day of the Minnesota State Fair. Her yellow outfit was highlighted by a riot of mixed patterns of turquoise, black, and red.
Mensah owns the Batakali Fashion Design booth at the International Bazaar and sells Ghanaian-made clothing.
Sahan Journal spoke with Mensah from Ghana about what he sells at fairs and online.
what’s all this stuff you’re selling?
“We also carry dashiki, women’s clothing, skirts, jackets, bags, jewelry and children’s clothing. Beautiful things!”
Has this booth been at the fair for a while?
“Yes, this is my third year.
What made you interested in opening a store at the fair?
“I used to come to trade fairs and I saw people selling things. So I came in and set it up one day and it was fine and here I am.
where did these clothes come from?
“From Ghana”
Are there any stores like this outside of the State Fair?
“I don’t actually have a store, but I’m selling online now. I’m going to be on Facebook and Instagram, and I’m working on it. I’m doing a pop-up show right now.”

How was the opening day?
“Well, today is day one, so people are trying to find and see what they like. If they want it, they buy it.”
Do you have a deal you want people to know about?
“I’m reasonable, trust me. When you come and buy something, you’ll enjoy it and come back again. It’s not too expensive to buy.”
