The central Oregon health system will no longer seek reimbursement from employees who may have overpaid due to payroll issues.

Earlier this month, the St. Charles Health System said it had overpaid at least 2,000 employees an average of $780, totaling $2 million.

This came after hackers attacked the company that manages the hospital’s payroll accounts.

Ultimate Kronos Group, a technology company that operates a payroll system in St. Charles, fell victim to a ransomware attack that upset many companies across the U.S. that use the system and made their payroll records inaccessible. .

From late November through January, the hospital was paying employees based on the hours they reported, a spokeswoman said earlier this month.

When St. Charles determined that it had overpaid some of its employees, it initially asked them to return the money.

This was criticized by the Oregon Nurses Association, which said the hospital had no documentation to prove its claims that its employees had been overpaid.

According to the Bend Bulletin, St. Charles interim president and CEO Dr. Steve Gordon said in a statement that the health system will seek damages from payroll companies.

Gordon also encourages employees to donate a portion of the overpayment to the St. Charles Foundation’s Care Assistance Fund.
