OCHN Delivers Mental Health Toolkit to Schools Across Oakland County
(OCHN, September 31, 2022)
As mental health continues to be at the forefront of the conversation, having mental health and substance use disorder resources available in schools is as important as having a first aid kit in the classroom.
The Oakland Community Health Network (OCHN) provides materials for middle and high school teachers in Oakland County that address mental health and substance use disorders. Information provided by email includes:
OCHN General Brochure: Access to services can be an unnecessary obstacle for those seeking assistance from the public mental health system. OCHN’s general brochure outlines how to access services, the screening process, and determination of eligibility.

Suicide Prevention Toolkit for Parents: The toolkit includes information on risk factors, warning signs, prevention tips, and how to talk to adolescents about suicide.
Resource and Crisis Center Cards: Crisis cards provide locations, phone numbers, and online resources for individuals in crisis.
The Massachusetts Youth Screening Instrument (MAYSI-2): An evidence-based screening tool that identifies pressing behavioral health needs of young people and connects them to community resources to help address those needs . Youth screening and referral professionals provide individualized follow-up plans using community-based services such as counseling and mentoring programs. Click here for more information on MAYSI 2.
Mental Health School Navigators (MHSN): This new initiative enables mental health support in schools. The School Mental Health Navigator program acts as a “safety net” for students with mental health needs that require professional intervention beyond what the school can provide. Coordinating these supports furthers the goal of creating a strong foundation for student academic success. Click here for more information on the MHSN program
