East Brunswick – Formerly known as Middlesex County Vocational Technical School, the county’s long-term plan to rebrand the school district has made a lot of progress.

County officials announced in June that Middlesex County’s vocational and technical schools were moving into a “new era of professional education” with a rebranding of new names and logos. A century later, the district is now called Middlesex County Magnet Schools.

Consisting of five campuses – Piscataway, Perth Amboy, East Brunswick, Edison and Woodbridge – it serves 2,200 high school students. In addition, the school also has an adult education program that benefits nearly 400 adults annually.

Thus, to mark the new identity of Middlesex education, a mixture of students and educators gathered outside the East Brunswick campus to join the milestone on September 7th.

Several representatives from Middlesex County and Middlesex County Magnet Schools gave speeches to explain how magnet school students are shaping the future of industry and innovation.

According to county officials, the purpose of the overhaul is to highlight and accurately represent the quality programs and educational opportunities currently offered. By removing the often stigmatized “profession and skill” label, officials believe the public perception of these institutions will change.

In a press release, County Board of Education Vice President Laura Chalnescu said: The experiences our district offers, and the types of students who choose to attend our schools.

In the same press release, Middlesex County Commissioner Chanel Scott McCallum added: Despite the countless success stories of students graduating from this school district, there are many parents, students, and educators in our community who are unaware of all the professional learning tracks available here. There are decision makers above.

“For generations, these extraordinary learning experiences have been offered tuition-free to all residents of the County. I look forward to seeing this school district through a new lens, and I wholeheartedly support this change and the leadership that will drive it forward.”
