Gulfport, Mississippi (WLOX) – London fashion is just around the corner, and Gulfport designers are packing their bags.

Nadine Gentles owns Dorcas Couture in Gulfport. She moved to the coast from Jamaica 21 years ago. Her company was named after her mother, Dorcas, who taught her to sew in the first place. She says it’s always been a passion since she was a little girl, and now she’s been invited to represent our region on a global scale as she heads to her fashion week in London.

Gentles will be showcasing 15 pieces at Saturday’s show. Entitled “Bloom,” her collection features subtle pops of blue and orange with an elegant black and white theme.

“When I start creating my work piece by piece, it teaches me something. I was. I have something to say. That’s another story.

Gentles believes sewing is an important skill that everyone should have. As such, she holds her sewing classes at her own studio in her Road Pass.
