Educational and fun events are coming to the capital as the Mississippi Science Fest (MSF) returns to Jackson’s LeFleur Museum District from Friday, September 15 through Sunday, September 17.

The LeFleur Museum District offers exhibitors, special events and programs at four locations: the Mississippi Children’s Museum, the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science, the Mississippi Agriculture and Forestry Museum, and the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum.

According to Monique Ealy, Director of Education at the Children’s Museum of Mississippi, MSF’s purpose is to teach science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) to young people through hands-on experience by experts in their respective fields of study. It is to spread to

“The overall goal of the Mississippi Science Festival is to promote STEM education, so we invite exhibitors from the STEM industry,” Ealey said in an interview with SuperTalk’s Rebecca Turner. “They can also provide hands-on experience and introduce them to the workforce when kids and families come in. So there is some workforce development there.”

Major League Baseball executive, architect and urban planner Janet Marie Smith is this year’s special guest speaker. A native of Jackson, Smith has built and managed several major and minor league ballpark renovations in the United States. He will also be inducted into the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame in 2021.

In partnership with MSF in the LeFleur Museum District, Meridian’s Mississippi Children’s Museum will host “Science Saturday” on Saturday, September 17th. Find out more about his MSF this year here.
