27 science teachers across the United States, including a science teacher at Ramona Abbey, Aurikki Flaganwas named a regional winner in the annual Shell Science Lab Regional Challenge. Sponsored by Shell USA, Inc. National Association for Science Education (NSTA)In this competition, K-12 teachers who find innovative ways to provide a quality lab experience with limited school or lab resources will win a School Science Lab Remodeling Support Package. To take a chance, we encouraged them to share their approach.

To participate in the Shell Science Lab Regional Challenge, Mrs. Fragan explained Ramona’s current lab resources, explained why she needed lab upgrade support, and introduced her to science education instruction using the current lab facilities. I was asked to describe my approach to A panel of science educators then judged her submissions and selected her as one of the winners.

Mrs. Fragan won Ramona a science lab makeover support package worth $15,000 and advanced to the national stage of the competition. There she has a chance to win her additional $5,000 in support to attend her NSTA National Conference on Future Science Education. .
