JW Anderson’s Spring/Summer 2023 showcase at London Fashion Week was held at London’s Casino Arcade and, according to post-show notes, was inspired by “a parallel world of people trapped in computers.”
Launched through a dual-gender cast, the womenswear showcase fused fashion and fun in its purest form, including dresses with pet fish plastic bags, glittering orbs, and retro keyboard keys. Anderson’s his SS23 offered a general sense of juxtaposition throughout, oversized and form-fitting, dramatic and subtle, free and wonderful.
Perhaps the most striking thing about the showcase was Anderson’s sheer dedication to craft. A wide range of techniques are briefly introduced, including draping, crumpling, knitting, and reversing. A masterclass in designing extravagant proportions, the designer’s Spring/Summer ’23 showcase featured all and some of Anderson’s signature his silhouettes.
The show concluded with a tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in the form of a black dress emblazoned with the words “thank you” along with her birth and death years.
