Charleston, South Carolina (WCSC) – The South Carolina Department of Education says schools in the state have made progress in ensuring students are prepared for college and careers, but more I admit that I need to do something.

The state has released the results of the Ready to Work and End-of-Course Examination Program assessment tests taken in high school courses for the 2021-2022 school year.

“Preparing students to meet college and career readiness standards should not be the mere aspiration of our state. It’s a responsibility,” said Mollie Spearman, director of education. “This is just one measure of her student performance that she uses to guide future work. The end-of-course exam program provides tests for core high school courses and tests for courses taken in middle school for high school credit. This program tests the following areas: Algebra 1. English 2; US History and Constitution; and Biology 1.

The Algebra average score increased from 65.84 in 2021 to 68.12 in 2022, almost returning to the pre-pandemic average score of 68.34. Biology and U.S. History mean scores also increased in 2022, but were lower than in 2019, while English 2 mean scores were about the same at 76.54 in 2021 and 76.52 in 2022.

“While we recognize the growth and improvement shown in our results compared to 2021, we also recognize that there is significant work to be done,” said Spearman.

Program data by subject showed mixed results. Although the number of students scoring an F in all subjects except U.S. history decreased, the percentage of Fs in Algebra (34.01%), Biology (42.52%), and U.S. History and Constitution (43.55%) increased. still significant. Nearly 16% of students who took the English 2 EOCEP exam received an F score.

The Ready to Work program, the first career readiness assessment for all 11th grade students in the spring of 2018, measures student achievement in three core subjects: applied mathematics, information reading, and information retrieval. Judge. Also included is an Essential Soft Skills assessment that provides information on student skills in areas such as problem-solving, goal-setting, decision-making, and self-orientation. These skills play an important role in your success in the workplace.

Of the 6,616 students who took the exam in 2021-2022, 62.2% achieved the certificate.

R2W provides customized qualifications that demonstrate a student’s ability to perform complex tasks and qualifications for a wide range of jobs. He has four certification levels: Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum. Students must achieve a minimum of 3 points in all assessments (Applied Mathematics, Reading Information, Finding Information) to receive a Bronze Certificate. A minimum of 4 is required for Silver, a minimum of 5 for Gold and a minimum of 6 for Platinum.

SCDE did not conduct a statewide WorkKeys assessment last year, but did at the district level.
