The Aviation Program at the University of Brunswick-Maine Augusta will host a series of Federal Aviation Administration educational sessions to educate various groups about remotely piloted aircraft known as drones. for all participants. The Education Series will take place on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, September 29th and October 1st, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.

As the United States emerges from a global pandemic, the FAA has expanded its reach to all nine FAA regions for in-person events. Its goal is to highlight the social, economic and educational benefits of drones for professional users and the general public through a series of events focused on different audiences, according to a news release from the university. .

Teachers, first responders, state agencies, and the general public are encouraged to participate. The presentation is open to high school students and others interested in remote pilot aviation. Others encouraged to attend include his K-12 STEM teacher, employers who need drones, and independent contractors who want to learn how to fly drones. Real estate brokers, construction companies, and inspectors are also encouraged to attend these informational events.

Daily sessions target specific individuals as follows:

• Thursday, September 29th is designated for students and educators (college/university, technical and high school) with presentations including: Information for students.

• Friday, September 30, with presentations on public safety training, small business best practices and resources, and local government best practices and resources, targeting careers (law enforcement, all first responders, and government agencies). do).

• Saturday, October 1 is for the community, friends, and family (for those interested in drone acquisition costs, licensing, and operations) to explore drone demos, drone simulators, and advanced airborne mobility.

Maine’s only RPA pilot training program, UMA has trained over 300 students in a basic commercial drone course. This program can be adapted for several different academic endeavors. Students can earn a Bachelor of Applied Science degree with a Remote Piloting Aircraft major. On remotely piloted aircraft she obtains a 31 credit hour certificate. Or prepare for your FAA Part 107 Commercial Remote Pilot Certificate by taking a basic commercial drone course. Her UAS certificate of 31 credit hours is approved for financial assistance by the UMA.
