Review of Apple’s impressive Apple Watch Ultra kicks off this week. It’s an impressive piece of gear, but at $800, it’s overkill for most people who don’t plan to spend a weekend fighting bears or diving to the bottom of the ocean in search of pirate gems. For the rest of us, regular watches work just fine for telling time and looking good. Amazon’s current watch sale offers up to 60% off discreet, reliable watches from Timex, Casio, and Seiko.

I’m personally a big fan of the Seiko mechanical automatic watch, which has dropped in price from $550 to $219. It features a large 39.9mm case that matches the stainless steel band. Equipped with an ultra-precise mechanical movement, the case is water resistant to 100 meters, far more water resistant than the human body.

If you’re looking for something a little more tactical, the Citizen Eco-Drive Promaster Nighthawk (currently $211 down from $395) offers a 42mm case that’s more complicated than a simple fashion watch. Dual time, date and even pilot specific functions are available. It looks like a classic chronograph, but more advanced than other purely style-oriented models.

The Timex Expedition is currently $65, about 20% off the regular price. Inspired by classic military watch design, it features a chronograph function, so it keeps time in 1/20th of a second increments. It’s water resistant to 100 meters and has an indiglo backlight for easy viewing in the dark. It looks much more expensive than it is.
