Food science student wins $10,000 grand prize for dairy invention

BYU Food Science undergraduates won the $10,000 grand prize for their product, Cream Cheese Cloud, at the 2022 Idaho Milk Processors Association Conference.
“Cream Cheese Clouds” are gluten-free frozen snacks that customers can put in the oven for 20 minutes to prepare.It’s the eighth time since 2008 that BYU has won the grand prize.
Food Science Professor Michael Dunn said the competition “is a great opportunity for students to gain experience with dairy and network with people in the dairy industry.”
BYU students design water purification system to bring clean, affordable water to Pakistan

A group of BYU Capstone School of Engineering students designed a water filtration system to bring clean and affordable water to Pakistan.
The group worked with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to create a prototype. This device can perform both microfiltration and ultrafiltration to remove small bacteria like E. coli.
“We set the device up at the edge of the pond, let the tube run into the water, and turned on the pump,” says team member Bethany Parkinson. “The first time the water came out of the filter, I was blown away. It was as clear as glacier water.”
