Creating inclusive spaces to promote better health for all

WINOOSKI, Vt. (WCAX) – “So I think the biggest problem of that kind is like entering a gender-affirming space,” said Kae Ravichandran of Inner Space.
Creating an inclusive space for everyone is the goal of this group. The inner space is a new organization. Their mission is to provide care to those who have experienced what they call systemic oppression and injustice. People they say are underrated. As a way to show support for spreading the word, they held a community event with his Outright VT to show Vermont citizens are here to help.
“These people are often forgotten and not thought of in terms of what they can provide.” Founder of Inner Space Koko Shah.
Multiple healthcare resources were available at the event for those with questions about access to care. There is also a free costume booth. Kay Ravichandran identifies as a transgender woman. She says her journey hasn’t been easy, especially when it comes to healthcare.
“Often it means that you need to feel like you are on either end of the gender dichotomy. Often caregivers do not know how to provide care,” explains Ravichandran.
Ravichandran says that in order to receive care as a transgender person, you usually need to undergo hormone therapy for at least a year before any physical changes occur. She says it’s sometimes difficult for providers to provide such care because some transgender people don’t know exactly what they want. Ravichandran believes transgender figures need to be placed in higher roles to create empathy.
“I want people to vote for trans people for government.
Billy Summers moved to Vermont because the health care system where he previously lived lacked resources for black mothers. She was just walking her son when she came across the event. She says she’s glad she feels supported in her new place.
“I’ve lived in several different states, and I’ve never had a community as supportive as this one. Specifically, not just people of color. Also, like young parents and single parents,” Summers said. Told.
Inner Space will continue to reach out to the community to educate more people. They want to have their own space at some point for people who need it.
