Columbia, South Carolina (WIS) – The South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services has partnered with the University of South Carolina to establish the School Behavioral Health Academy (SBHA).

This program prepares teachers and staff at South Carolina schools on how to support the mental health of their students.

“The resources announced today will help us better support schools as they integrate mental health services into their daily routines. Together with SCDHHS’ efforts to encourage the provision of health care, we will help increase access to these important services for children across the state,” said SCDHHS Director Robby Carr.

Officials said they would be trained on many other topics, including building safe schools, responding to crises, science-based approaches to counseling, and school-wide approaches to preventing mental health and behavior problems. I was.

UofSC personnel guide and assist schools in improving the mental health of their students through online and in-person instruction.

SBHA is supported by a $3.2 million grant from the South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (SCDHHS).

SBHA offers two online certificate programs in school behavioral health. This includes continuing education credits and content tailored to the role and needs of learners, even if they are not a formal mental health provider.
