CHICAGO — A teenage girl who was performing a three-point turn during a driver’s training exam in Chicago was injured Thursday when a bullet grazed her head, officials said.

According to Chicago police, a 17-year-old girl was driving a Ford Focus in the Roseland area when people standing in a nearby corner opened fire on a passing vehicle, the Chicago Tribune reported.

According to the newspaper, the girl was hit in the head by one of several gunshots. She was not hurt by the instructor or another student in the back seat.

The girl’s mother, who requested anonymity, told WLS-TV, “They are learning to get behind the wheel and not be afraid, and this happens.” “It scars them for life.”

The teenage girl is a student at Epic Academy but was assigned to Fenger Academy High School for a driver education course, WFLD-TV reported.

The victim, who received three stitches to close the wound, was recovering at home after being released from a local hospital, the Tribune reported.

“She has a lot of headaches. “She’s having nightmares. She couldn’t sleep.”

“Your children’s safety is always our number one priority,” Fenger Academy principal Mesha Ramy said in a statement to parents.

“Please know that we take this matter very seriously,” Lamy said in a statement obtained by WLS. “We will continue to work diligently with the CPD and CPS Offices of Safety and Security to ensure our school remains where every student can reach their full potential.

No arrests have been made and police said an investigation was ongoing.
