The Girl Scouts of Hawaii hosted the first Pacific Expedition in a STEM program July 7-13 at Camp Paumal on Oahu’s North Shore.

Girl Scouts of Hawaii CEO Shali Chan said in a press release: “It has been an exciting and busy week for the girls who have gained hands-on experience in engineering, biology, astronomy, technology and cybersecurity through really fun activities.”

Camp activities included hiking, archery, snorkeling, drone building, surfing lessons, and traditional Hawaiian farming. The Girl Scouts of Hawaii also partnered with organizations such as Oceanit, the University of Hawaii School of Engineering, and the Hawaii Institute of Marine Biology to introduce campers to his many STEM careers and study paths available in the state.

Additionally, the girls were able to experience Hawaiian culture through partnerships with the Polynesian Voyaging Society, the Polynesian Cultural Center, and participation in the Malama Aina experience at Kualoa Ranch.

Girl Scouts of Hawaiiʻi’s Pacific Exploration in STEM and other STEM-related programs aim to meet Hawaii’s current and future needs for STEM professionals. It is estimated that 80% of the jobs that will exist in 5 years will not exist today. Only 25% of her STEM jobs in the U.S. are female, so Girl Scouts of Hawaii changed its program to encourage girls to pursue careers in this fast-growing industry. Did.

Pacific Exploration in STEM is one of many Girl Scout destination programs that take Girl Scout Cadets, Senior Girl Scouts and Girl Scout Ambassadors on adventures around the country and around the world.
