Bismarck, North Dakota (KFYR) – Before the school year begins, some students are beginning another week of learning at Gateway to Science STEM Summer Camps.

These students are learning what the tree life cycle is by doing tree yoga, imitating the life cycle of a tree.

Campers are introduced to a variety of activities including science, engineering, technology, mathematics, biology and physics. Instructors translate the varied curriculum through fun and engaging activities tied to seeing art and science firsthand.

Some campers, like Caleb Hertz, join to combine their favorite toys while learning new things.

Children participated in many hands-on learning activities such as making constellations out of marshmallows and toothpicks.

“Because of COVID, children have not had the opportunity to learn STEM in the classroom, so STEM camps are great. ,” said STEM Ambassador Hope Burdolski.

Throughout the week, campers will learn about rockets, create reactions with Pops and Mentos, and experience an egg drop simulator.

This year’s STEM camp was packed and was the last camp held in the current Gateway to Space building before moving to a new location.
