Arizona Community College Prepares New Science Complex

According to a recent press release, construction of a $13.6 million science complex at South Mountain Community College in Phoenix, Arizona has been completed. The complex includes a complete renovation of two of his existing buildings and a new 19,000-square-foot physics and life sciences building. The new facility is scheduled to open to students for STEM classes and lab sessions in the spring of 2023.

The university partnered with McCarthy Building Companies for the project’s construction and design by architectural firm Gensler. The builder used the structurally sound skeleton of his two existing buildings to minimize budget and reduce project completion time. The new structural connection will join the two existing buildings and, including new construction, the entire complex will cover approximately 34,000 square feet.

According to a news release, the new complex will feature facilities such as science laboratories, experiment support spaces, cadaver labs, informal study spaces and faculty rooms. The complex not only integrates state-of-the-art technology into the classrooms and laboratories, but also a ‘forward-looking’ floor plan and a modern look for laboratory support areas and creative learning spaces.
