The match started with Gauff’s early strains leading to multiple unforced errors. These mistakes and troubles on his first serve saw Garcia quickly put him in a 4–0 lead. It was completely different from the Coco I saw at the competition. I honestly can’t remember when I last saw her like this.

Coco fought back and even managed to get a break of service, but in the end Garcia won the first set 6-3.

Unfortunately, the second set didn’t start so well. Garcia let Coco play his game, controlling the pace and taking on a more attacking role. To her credit, Gauff was able to keep fighting and catch the French player off guard. Things didn’t get better for the 12th seed, as Caroline had answers to everything Coco threw at her.

Frankly, Garcia outperformed Gauff. She stepped onto the court with a game plan and executed it flawlessly. Coco was backwards from the beginning and never recovered.
