Southeast Georgia Health District Holds Pop-Up Covid Test Distribution

Metter, GA (WTOC) – A health agency in our area is bringing Covid-19 testing back to a nearby intersection.
Sixteen counties in the southeastern Georgia health district are handing them out on the street and ready to put them in your hands.
People in the Southeast Georgia Health District hope these “pop-up” test distributions will help people identify Covid cases more quickly, get treatment and minimize the spread.
Team members stood on the corner of downtown Metter and ran some tests for people to take home. They brought about 2,000 to give away for free.
Organizers say testing at home can prevent someone from venturing out when they could infect others.
“By taking these tests at home, you can take care of yourself at home and go from there,” says Katie Hadden of Georgia’s Southeastern Health District.
It all took some people by surprise. They had to go back twice, double check and take advantage.
“You never know who’s going to come when you’re not feeling well or your family is not feeling well. It’s good to have at least one on hold,” says Karen Cardell.
Team members are also happy to be able to do things like this with less worry than the pandemic was months ago.
Hadden says he’s trying to do more of these things.
In the meantime, you can go to your local health department and ask for some.
