Exeter, PA TWP – Forget the catwalk. It was all about Penny walking the dog at New York Fashion Week just a few days ago.
“It was a proud moment for me,” said Penny’s owner Preeti Kaur.
Kaur, who hails from Exeter Township, talks about the moment her Maltipoo, Penny, made her way down the runway for designer Anthony Rubio’s show.
“There was a photographer backstage taking pictures of her and finally handing her over to the model assigned to her who carried her across the runway.
Preety Kaur, from Exeter Township, said that when Penny isn’t walking the runway, she helps out at the Children’s Alliance Center in Berks County.
Kaul says the pinch-me moment started like a dream. She sent Penny’s photo and resume after seeing Canine Couture her model casting her call earlier this year.
“I thought, ‘It’s not bad to try, I don’t know,'” Kaul said. “I mean, I’m from Berks County. It’s a distant shot, but let’s try.”
Penny got a phone and a job.
“I literally jumped,” Kaur said. “I didn’t think it was real at first, but I was so excited.”
So they went to New York City and Penny modeled at Rubio’s show in February. On Sept. 11, Penny made her second Rubio runway appearance for her fashion show.
“Surreal,” said Kaul. “I couldn’t believe I made it from a small town to the Big Apple.”
When she’s not sporting her shaggy fashion, Penny is helping out with the locals. She is a certified therapy dog and volunteers at Burks County She Alliance Her Center for Children.
“I want to keep her deeply involved in our community,” Kaul said.
But dog owners say Penny’s modeling career is just beginning.
“We definitely want to continue with New York Fashion Week.”
More details and photos of the four-legged rising star can be found on her Instagram account.
