The Johnston County Board of Education held a special session on Wednesday, Sept. 14 to celebrate the academic successes announced by the North Carolina Department of Education earlier this month.

Johnston County Public Schools has a district-wide goal of having 100% of schools in the system achieve an A, B, or C grade by the end of the 2023-2024 school year, which is set by the JCPS Superintendent of Education. Dr. Eric C. Bracey and his senior leadership.

Prior to this year, JCPS had 38 schools with A, B, or C grades and 30 schools ranked in the top 20% of academic performance in the state.

“The level of achievement we’ve seen across the district has been amazing. This is just the beginning,” Dr. Bracey said. “Our goal is to celebrate again next September.”

Schools were given a banner to hang in their school as a reminder of their accomplishments and to keep them striving for excellence.

Dr. Kerri Evans, Principal of Swift Creek Middle School, said: The Swift Creek Middle School team worked together to focus on student success, regardless of role or title. ”

The special session was attended by the principal, assistant principals, board members and dignitaries.
