Lancaster’s Joshua Elementary incorporates the science of reading and phonics to teach children how to read. Joshua is one of 70 schools across the state, and the school with the lowest test scores gets additional state funding to improve their scores. The $50 million settlement settled a lawsuit alleging that the state denied children their civil right to literacy.
