By day, Doug Wiggins adds a creative touch to fashion.
It’s a career he’s a one-man company.
Growing up in New Mexico, Wiggins has seen her share of hardships.
That’s why his design company, Done By Doug, often hosts canned drives.
“This is my second time this year and it’s an easy way to give back to the community that has supported me,” Wiggins said. “With my fashion design label, I have a platform to make a difference.”
Wiggins is hosting a canned food drive on Friday, October 14th from 8am to 4pm at the Power Plant at 3719 Fourth NW.
All donations go to Storehouse New Mexico.
Wiggins also hosts a raffle for the event. For every five items donated, that person will receive an entry into the raffle, and the prize will be a custom piece done by Wiggins.
“This is a thank you to those who have donated,” he says.
Wiggins founded Done by Doug in 2019.
We create fashion every day. Recently, he started posting videos on his Instagram showing his creative process.
“A friend told me I should do this,” he says of the video. “It really expanded the scope of what I do. Expressing yourself through fashion is one of the most powerful things you can do.
Wiggins is also able to spark conversations through his fashion.
“My work often speaks out against violence and social injustice in our society,” he says. “Whether they like my work or not, it’s important to have social commentary about it and have people talk about it. It’s meant to be a conduit.”
Wiggins hopes to inspire others to do something for the community by doing a canned drive.
“This is the path I chose,” he says. “Change takes time. Count every step.”
