AgWell Sept. 28 and 29 in Salida, Colorado – The Rocky Mountain Farmers Union project is a partnership of programs and organizations that support the behavioral health and well-being of Colorado farmers, ranchers, agricultural workers, and their families. Hold a summit. Suicide rates, substance abuse, and mental health problems continue to soar in America’s rural and frontier communities, where agriculture is often a major industry.
The opening program for the September 28th event will take place at the Guidestone Hutchinson Homestead at 8913 WUS 50, Salida.
The Colorado Agricultural Behavioral Health and Well-being Summit provides a space to share the work that aid organizations are doing, their current and next year program plans, and the resources they provide. For farmers and ranchers across Colorado, it can be difficult to access mental health care that addresses their specific concerns and needs. From loneliness, to paying bills during a drought, to feeding the children, caring for livestock and crops, worrying about leaving the ranch to the heirs, not to mention retirement, worry and anxiety overwhelmed. It can cause confusion. Emotional sacrifice in every aspect of life.
But various agricultural and behavioral health organizations are trying to improve that with programs that are “built by agriculture for agriculture.” We discuss their successes and the struggles they face in hopes of producing both an enhancement of
