B2B marketplaces used to be a relatively minor sales channel, and those days weren’t that far away.

Present since the late 1990s and early 2000s, markets in sectors such as auto parts, healthcare and aerospace parts have yet to find success. Only a few have achieved significant industry penetration, such as Boeing Global Services, which now works with 6,000 global suppliers and generates $2 billion in online sales.

But times are changing and so is the B2B marketplace. Five years ago, Digital Commerce 360 had only 75 marketplaces. Now that number has reached 500 and continues to grow. In 2023, B2B marketplaces are also the fastest growing digital sales channel, with combined sales reaching $112 billion in 2023, up 100% from sales of $56 billion in 2023. 2022, according to a projection from Digital Commerce 360.
